The IGCSE English Educator’s Diploma Course

About the Event

Calling all English teachers!  “You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.” - James Baldwin  As English teachers, we all want our students to engage deeply with literature and see the connections between literature and life. We also want our students to develop critical reading skills, analytical and creative writing skills, and oral communication skills. Additionally, we want to make sure that our students are well-prepared for the high-stakes exams that they will take in high school.  If you are looking for ways to develop your craft as an English teacher, come join TREE’s diploma program. We’ll help you become a more effective and engaging teacher. We guarantee that at the end of this program, you will deepen your own love of literature and language, and you will develop a wide range of tools and strategies to ensure that your students become better readers, writers, and thinkers. We promise that you will also see an improvement in your students’ IGCSE English exam results.

Modules:

Module 1: Why reading for pleasure matters

How to create a reading culture in your classroom

Module 2: Novel study

How to help students analyse literature effectively

Module 3: Analytical Writing

How to teach students to construct an argument and write a literary essay

Module 4: IGCSE Language Tasks

How to prepare students for the IGCSE Language exams using a task-by-task approach to the IGCSE reading and writing papers. We will also work through some checkpoint papers. This module builds on the ones before because teachers can only teach exam strategies after they have helped students learn how to read critically, how to analyse literature, and how to write analytical paragraphs and essays.
